The company and UFCW Local 7 bargaining committees met today to resume contract negotiations. The union did not come prepared to bargain in good faith and failed to make a comprehensive offer to reach an agreement. King Soopers/City Market remains firm on our Last, Best and Final Offer – a $170 million investment in wage increases plus additional investments in your benefits.
King Soopers/City Market President Joe Kelley joined the company bargaining committee for today’s negotiations to listen to our associates who also serve on the union bargaining committee. His presence at the table today was to show his commitment that the company wants to reach an agreement. Joe reminded your union president and the UFCW Local 7 Bargaining Committee that all the money is on the table and that by taking her members out on strike instead of allowing them to vote on the offer, union leadership cost associates the $4,000/$2,000 ratification bonuses that were included in our Last, Best, and Final Offer.
Union Continues to Bargain in Bad Faith – What Are They Doing for You?
Despite putting on a show about resuming negotiations, your union did not come prepared to bargain and has not made an offer since their one and only comprehensive offer which expired January 12 at 4:59 AM. The union wanted to focus discussions on individual language proposals instead of bargaining to reach an agreement that would end its strike and put you back to work.
Our Position Remains: Let Associates Vote
The company’s position remains that our Last, Best and Final Offer represents a significant investment in your pay, health care and pension. We remain firm that next steps should be to allow associates to have a voice – an opportunity to vote “YES” or “NO.” To enable this, we have offered the union the opportunity to hold confidential voting in stores where it would be most convenient for all associates to vote.
In fact, UFCW by-laws state that the union shall hold a vote when the company presents its Last, Best and Final Offer. We are asking the union to hold true to these by-laws (UFCW International Constitution: Article 23 Collective Bargaining Contracts Section D-3.)
Your Voice Matters
The union works for you as your bargaining representative. Your voice matters! We encourage you to contact the union to ask that they continue working on your behalf and allow you to vote “YES” or “NO” on our Last, Best and Final Offer in store.
