Saturday, the Company and Union returned to the bargaining table as scheduled. It was the Union’s turn to respond to our most recent proposal. However, the Union was not prepared to meet until 2 p.m., which delayed the start of productive discussions.
When bargaining finally resumed, the Union shared an updated comprehensive proposal. While we’re encouraged the Union responded, we don’t believe the proposal reflects a serious attempt to find common ground. From our view, it appears Local 7 is more focused on creating the appearance of movement than on building real momentum towards reaching an agreement this weekend.
Let’s Talk About Wages
From the beginning, we’ve promised to provide honest and transparent bargaining updates—even when the news may be difficult to hear. We understand that the Union’s wage proposals may raise questions or generate excitement. However, we believe the Union’s proposed wage increases significantly exceed market standards and are not a real attempt to reach a fair and balanced agreement.
We agree our associates deserve competitive wages and meaningful investment that recognizes their hard work, keeps healthcare affordable, and helps ensure our stores remain competitive and groceries affordable for the communities we serve.
Our current comprehensive offer includes a $4.00/hour wage increase for Top Rate associates over a four-year contract with no reset of hours for wage increases within the progression scale plus low-cost, high-quality healthcare, and a secure pension for retirement.
Our commitment remains the same: reaching an agreement that rewards your hard work while ensuring the long-term success of our stores and communities.
Next Steps
The Company and Union are scheduled to meet again tomorrow, Sunday, May 18. We remain ready to negotiate in good faith and will continue working toward a fair and balanced agreement.
We’ll share another update in huddles and on KingSoopersCBA.com after Sunday’s bargaining session.
Thank you for your continued patience and dedication to serving our customers during this process.
