Why is Local 7 Not Sharing a Comprehensive Proposal?
At King Soopers/City Market, what is important to you is important to us, which is why we remain committed to transparent negotiations updates. During today’s bargaining session, the Company and Union exchanged counter proposals on language items.
On December 4, the Company provided the Union a comprehensive proposal. During bargaining this Monday, December 16, the union rejected our comprehensive offer without sharing their wage, healthcare, or pension proposals. We believe not sharing these necessary proposals despite several company requests is a stall tactic. The plain truth is King Soopers continues to bargain in good faith to move the bargaining process forward:
- The Company received approximately 160 questions from the Union on December 11 about our offer—many of which had already been discussed and answered during earlier bargaining sessions. We responded in full on December 14.
- Since bargaining began in October, we’ve spent hours across the table answering Union questions and clarifying proposals.
- We even had healthcare benefit plan consultants available during the December 4 bargaining session to provide immediate answers to union questions about our healthcare proposal.

Why Union Obstruction & Stall Tactics Matter
- The Purpose of Negotiations
Bargaining is meant to be a give-and-take process where both sides share ideas, respond to each other’s proposals, and move toward an agreement.
- When Questions Become Delays
Asking questions is a normal part of bargaining, but asking the same questions repeatedly—when answers have already been provided—only delays progress.
- Bad Faith Behavior
These tactics violate the spirit of negotiations, which require both sides to engage seriously and act in good faith to find solutions.
What This Means for You
When the union delays the process:
- Progress Stops: You’re left waiting for solutions, like wage increases and benefit protections, while the union avoids moving forward.
- Your Time Is Wasted: Associates deserve union leadership that prioritizes results, not delays.
- Trust Is Broken: Stall tactics show a lack of respect for you and the importance of reaching a fair agreement in a timely manner.
Our Commitment
The Company remains committed to:
- Answering Questions: We’ve fully addressed the Union’s inquiries in writing and in bargaining sessions.
- Finding Solutions: We’re ready to work together to finalize an agreement that protects your wages, benefits, and future.
- Respecting You: We believe you deserve a fair agreement without unnecessary delays.
