UFCW Local 7 Rejects King Soopers’ Peaceful Relations Proposal

Denver, CO – (February 17, 2025) – King Soopers formally requested that UFCW Local 7 enter into a peaceful relations agreement that would ensure stability for associates, customers, and the communities we serve while negotiations continue. This agreement would have allowed both parties to focus on reaching a new contract without the ongoing uncertainty of work stoppages. The Company’s proposal further included an offer to ensure its associates engaged in strike activities would not experience a loss of healthcare coverage due to insufficient hours worked. However, the Union rejected the proposal, continuing to reference unsubstantiated unfair labor practice allegations.

“We are deeply concerned about the consequences this decision will have on our associates, who could lose their healthcare and the certainty of a paycheck as a result of continued disruptions,” said Joe Kelley, President of King Soopers/City Market. “Rather than working toward a resolution that benefits our associates and customers, the Union is making unreasonable demands that only serve to delay progress, create uncertainty, and, critically, put our hardworking associates at risk of losing their healthcare.”

“Our dedicated associates thrive when they have the certainty of a paycheck and the reassurance of industry-leading, affordable healthcare,” Kelley added. “The Union is acting irresponsibly by disregarding what their members—our associates—need most: stability and a reliable investment in their future.”

On January 16th, we provided the Union with our last, best and final offer, and our associates deserve the opportunity to vote on an offer that puts more money in their paychecks.

King Soopers remains committed to securing a fair agreement that protects the livelihoods of its associates while keeping groceries affordable for Colorado families. We urge UFCW Local 7 to return to the bargaining table and work toward a resolution that prioritizes stability and the well-being of our associates and customers.
